Hi I'm Debby

Post  Debby on Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:40 am

Hello everyone!

My name is Deborah, I'm 23 years old and I live in Italy in a mountain village located between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna.
I'm a student enrolled in a foreign languages course at the UniversitĂ  degli studi di Pisa. I'm studying English and I love all animals especially cats, dogs (Golden Retrievers are my favourite), dolphins and hedgehogs.
I started with them last year when Nemo, the Newfoundland dog of my cousin, found a young hedgehog in our garden. Jackie (this is the name we gave to the hoglet) was teething and underweight; she also had fleas. I took her in and so began my lovely experience with hedgehogs.
Jackie is now grown and I set her free in June after a period of rehabilitation. Smile

I'm here to learn more about these extraordinary animals. Unfortunately the "hedgehog culture" is not so diffused in Italy.
I co-operate with SOS Ricci, which is the only hedgehog specialized hospital here.
I'm reading books and web sites and I think this forum could be very useful to gain knowledge of hedgehog, to chat with real hedgehog lovers and... to improve my English! Grin

I look forward to hearing from you all! Bye

(I say sorry for any grammatical error.)

Hi Trish!
These are busy days for me too: I'm going to have an exam about English Morphology next week so I have to study study study...
How nice you work in a school! I love children and I have been a baby-sitter for 3 years.
Today here in Italy the weather is bad and it's raining at the moment. sad2 It seems to be November, not July.

Thanks for the welcome Bethany! I'm happy to be here Smile
I'm always worried about my English because I'm afraid of writing something wrong... I don't want to seem rude.
For example, I wrote "SHE had fleas" instead of "IT" referring to my hedgehog Jackie because my English teacher told me: "An animal is not an object, we have to respect all creatures so use he/she".
But I read some posts and everybody uses "it"... Embarassed

Yes, most people here say 'it'. Out of habit I think, but not to worry.

Nice to have you here.

Bethany.
